Shelf October 12th

What a great night we had Saturday night celabrating our 20th anniversary as “Best of Friends”. A fun night with everyone in the mood to party and a few surprise guests, some who had travelled quite a distance. A big thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a good night. We had a raffle for a hamper, a couple of houses of Irish Bingo and a Quiz which all went down well. As usual far more requests than we had time for but did my best, finished the night off with a repeat of the most requested dance which this month was Karl’s ”My Angel & Me”. Celia’s suppers just get better if that’s possible and thare’s always enough for the “doogy bags”. It was a double celebration really, reaching 20 years as Best of Friends and “The End of an Era” after having to close our Wednesday class a couple of weeks short o the 20 years. We will be carrying on with the monthly Socials at Shelf Village Hall and the next one will be Saturday, November 16th. To mark the occasion Celia had done her usual Pam Ayres bit and read out this poem which to Celia’s delight received a great round of applause.

When we started up our class,

It took some sorting out,

But after meeting all of you,

For us there was no doubt.

Geoff taught himself to read a script,

But they just sent me funny,

So I just tried to learn the dance,

Then sat and took the money.

It brought us so much pleasure,

We feel everyone’s a friend,

I can tell you from both of us,

We’re sad it had to end.

But we’re hard to get rid of,

When there’s dancing still around,

We’ll not be sat home growing old,

We’ll be somewhere to be found,

So thank you all for your support,

You’ve been there all the way,

We’ve loved every minute spent with you,

What more is there to say.
